The Application Process

2017-2018 Feagin Leadership Scholar Application Process

 

The John A. Feagin Jr., MD, Leadership Program has been created to honor John A. Feagin, Jr., MD Duke University Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Feagin’s dedication to developing ethical leaders of character is the inspiration for this effort. This program benefits leadership education at Duke University.

The program consists of five leadership sessions; attendance at the Feagin Leadership Forum; personal leadership coaching and participation in a team project. All of which are mandatory unless an absence is preapproved by the Executive Director.

Applications are open to rising Third Year Medical Students, MD/PhD Students, Residents, and Fellows. Medical students will need faculty mentor approval to participate in the program.

The following are the items to be included in your application packet:

  • 1 page Resume

  • 2 letters of recommendation

    • 1 from a faculty member (can be but does not have to be an MD)

    • 1 from another individual (not a family member)

  • 1 page essay addressing the following two questions:

"What will you contribute to the Feagin Leadership Program and what do you expect to get out of your experience in the program?"

The deadline for the Feagin Medical Scholar application is 19 June 2017.  Please submit application in PDF format to Cindy Crabtree at cindy.crabtree@duke.edu with 2017 Application in the subject line.

Note:  If someone writing a letter of recommendation prefers, they can send it directly to Cindy Crabtree.  Also, keep resume and essay to 1 page each.
